If a haunted mansion wasn’t enough to keep your skin crawling, beware of the “Deadhead Family Crypt”!  This mausoleum houses a variety of characters that need an awakening courtesy of a steel silver ball to their head.  This interactive crypt will keep players on their toes with the Crypt entrance unleashing balls from a separate location while also becoming a physical bash toy.  And with Elvira’s pending move from her hopeful home sale, the interactive Elvira’s “Junk in the Trunk” toy allows players to lock balls for a frantic two-ball multiball.

It was in March 2017 at a Texas Pinball Festival seminar when it was accidentally announced that a third Elvira pinball machine was in the pipeline. So, it came as no surprise when three months ago Cassandra Peterson, the American actress best known for her portrayal of the horror hostess character Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, confirmed the follow-up to the two existing Elvira pinball machines. Cassandra, or rather Elvira stated, “AND… I couldn’t be more excited to announce that, after a looooong wait, my latest pinball machine from Stern is FINALLY due out this October! If you thought Party Monsters and Scared Stiff were good, wait till you get a load’a this baby! Nothin’ but pure blood-curdling FUN! Thanx for being a part of my Fang Club! Nordman, Freres & Sheats

Rumours abound that Dennis Nordman who worked on both Elvira and the Party Monsters and Scared Stiff, has been involved in the layout and design. It has also been suggested that Nordman’s long-time collaborator Greg Freres, who also worked on both previous Elvira pinball machines, has been helping to develop the artwork, while Stern Pinball software engineer and professionally ranked pinball player Lyman Sheats Jr, who served his time at both Data East and Williams, has been taking care of the code. If these rumours prove to be true, then Stern Pinball’s eagerly awaited Elvira’s House of Horrors pinball machine could well be the greatest and most immersive Elvira pinball offering to date.

The Beatles Land at Heathrow!

Jurassic Park Pinball Machine Released by Stern

Stern Pinball has today announced the release of its new Jurassic Park Pinball Machine

The original Jurassic Park pinball was launched in 1993 and was considered by many to be one of the greatest Data East titles ever produced. Jurassic Park pinball was fully loaded and came factory equipped with a topper, shaker motor, 3 scoops and several innovative features, a “taser gun” shooter featured a “Smart Missile” which was a homage to the 1981 arcade hit Defender. A large motorised t-rex head not only looked around as you played, but could eat and swallow the ball, only for it to appear elsewhere on the playfield!

Following the buyout of Data East by Sega and marking the release of the Jurassic Park sequel, in 1997, Sega launched their Jurassic Park: The Lost World pin, however sales of the Sega machine were said to be significantly lower than the original and in 1999 Sega Pinball sold out to Gary Stern.

Full Colour, HD Monitor & Animatronic T-Rex

Fast forward 20 years and Stern’s new Jurassic Park pinball machine, the third machine to be based on the 1993 film, boasts full colour, HD monitor, although it doesn’t seem to display movie scenes but custom graphics instead, and an animatronic T-Rex that regurgitates pinballs in the Premium and LE versions.

Heart Pounding Excitement

Like the blockbuster movie, the Jurassic Park pinball experience generates heart pounding excitement as the player progresses through the game. As the game starts, the player is transported to Isla Nublar, an amusement park where escaped dinosaurs are running amok! The player’s mission is to rescue park staff and recapture dinosaurs from the chaotic environment unleashed by Dennis Nedry’s computer virus. All dinosaurs, however, are not created equal as players will battle Raptors and the mighty T. Rex! The game immerses players in the fun world of battling dinosaurs in an action-packed adventure filled with twists and turns.

The Premium and Limited Edition models feature an amazing animatronic ball-eating, ball-throwing T. Rex that interacts with the ball and the player. These models also include an interactive Raptor and Raptor Pen featuring a ball-lock mechanism guarded by a motorized gate. The action does not let up with unique mosquito-in-amber pop bumpers and a custom metal horizontal helicopter spinner.

Jungle Adventure Vehicle Target

The Pro, Premium, and Limited Edition models also feature a Jungle Adventure Vehicle target in the middle of the playfield that is a spinning Newton Ball. This kinetic target registers direct hits, determines the direction players navigate on the island during gameplay, and lights T. Rex modes. All models include three full sized flippers, four custom ramps, a spinning “Spitter” target, in-lane up/down lock post that sets up critical playfield shots and distinctive hand-drawn art highlighting iconic dinosaurs from the series.

Slash Reveals Forthcoming Guns N Roses Pinball

As rumoured in our Pinball Heaven blog post of 20th March, in an interview with the San Francisco Weekly, Slash has revealed a new Guns N Roses Pinball Machine is on the way.

Having discovered pinball in the early 1990’s, Slash has become a prolific fan and lists Funhouse, Party Zone, The Addams Family and Jurassic Park among his favourites.

In 1994, Data East asked Slash to participate in the creation of a Guns N Roses Pinball Machine. The soundtrack featured the song “Ain’t Goin’ Down”, a “Use Your Illusion” outtake that signs the only official release of the song. A few years later, Slash contributed to the Viper Night Drivin’ machine produced by Sega, with “Speed Parade” from supergroup Slash’s Snakepit featuring in the game, along with a few cameos from the man himself. In addition, Slash has also recorded the song “Be The Ball”, dedicated to his love of pinball. So, Slash revealing a new GNR pinball machine is on the way is not altogether unexpected.

Slash & Duff Get Dialed In

Since Slash, along with GNR bass player Duff McKagan recently tried out Jersey Jack’s Dialed In during their concert at Hersheypark Stadium, rumours abound that the new GRN pin will be produced by Jersey Jack. However, who will design it?

Given that Pat Lawlor designed the hugely popular Willy Wonka Pinball Machine recently released by Jersey Jack, and that Pat is now rumoured to be working on the new Jersey Jack Toy Story pin, will he also be designing the new GNR pinball machine? Slash stating to the San Francisco Weekly that “nothing has ever come out like it” and speculation over the new Toy Story pin being delayed because of alleged licencing issues, could well point to a Pat Lawlor designed GNR pinball machine being launched by the end of this year.

Guns N Roses Pinball Machine – 4th Quarter Release?

So, with the current GNR tour set to close on Saturday 2nd November, are we looking at a 4th quarter release for the new Jersey Jack Guns N Roses Pinball Machine? Nothing has been confirmed so far, but as soon as we find out we will be sure to let you know.

Beetlejuice & Superman ’78 Pinball Machines “going to go nowhere”

Chris Franchi, who was a member of the design team for Stern’s The Beatles, Munsters, Guardians of the Galaxy and Batman 66 pinball machines has revealed artwork for a proposed Superman ’78 pin, which apparently is “going to go nowhere”.

Chris Franchi – Slap Save Pinball Podcast

Chris Franchi, who was first approached by Stern three years ago to create pinball artwork for Batman 66, revealed on Slap Save Pinball Podcast 24, he had more recently been contracted by a “boutique” company to design artwork for both a Beetlejuice and Superman ’78 pinball machine, with view to them being presented to Stern as part of a proposal for new games. However, the proposals didn’t hit the mark with Stern’s production teams, so unfortunately according to Franchi, they “… will not end up on pinball machines ever, probably!”

Franchi explains, “About a year and a half ago, a — we’ll call them a “boutique” company — wanted to propose to Stern a game for Beetlejuice and a game for Superman ’78… I was contracted to do the artwork for [both of them]… both of these went through Warner Brothers. So originally Beetlejuice pretty much looked like it got the green light. Then we got to Superman and there were some stumbling blocks, and Warner Brothers was trying to work that out. In the meantime… both of these IPs were pitched to Stern as possible boutique games. The same thing that happened to Superman that happened to Beetlejuice. I’ll paraphrase George Gomez by basically saying that both of these IPs were presented to the teams at Stern and none of them were quite as passionate as George would’ve liked them to be in order to produce a really exciting game for either of these properties. Now as much as that sucks it is a very valid point. We don’t want anyone designing a game that they’re just not feeling because it is just not going to come out as good as it could if it was a property that they were really behind. So basically, because I own the artwork but I don’t own the properties, they are basically going to go nowhere.”
