Dungeons & Dragons Pinball Machine – the Pinball Rumour Mill

Dungeons & Dragons created in 1974 by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson, is the original tabletop role playing game. Set in a fantasy world of magic and mythical creatures, players create characters and embark on adventures led by a Dungeon Master. Known for its deep rules and emphasis on creativity, teamwork, and storytelling, Dungeons & Dragons has shaped gaming, literature, and pop culture.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year it is rumoured that Stern Pinball is shortly to announce a Dungeons & Dragons 50th anniversary pinball machine. And it’s meant to be coming soon…

Dungeons & Dragons Pinball Teaser Artwork

As far back as March 2014 Stern featured Dungeons & Dragons teaser artwork on their Facebook page, rumoured to have created by Donny Gillies. However, ten years on both Knapp Arcade and Old School Gamer Magazine suggest that Stern’s forthcoming release has been designed by Brian Eddy, who has contributed to such pinball titles as: Attack from Mars, Medieval Madness, Theatre of Magic, Star Trek and Elvira’s House of Horrors.

Having worked with Williams/Bally in the 1990s during their pinball golden age and known for his ability to blend engaging gameplay, humour, and highly creative visuals, a Brian Eddy / Stern Pinball D&D could just be the pinball machine of the year.

Wizard, Warrior, and Thief

Stern Pinball Dungeons & Dragons is expected to feature a variety of elements drawn directly from the D&D universe encountering famous heroes like the Wizard, Warrior, and Thief, alongside classic monsters such as the Beholder, Mind Flayer, and Tiamat the Dragon Queen.

Players might find themselves navigating quests, dodging traps, and battling fearsome creatures, with the multiball modes and ramp shots serving as metaphorical challenges in these adventurous pursuits. Interactive components like custom-designed ramps, spinning discs, and possibly an intricate “dungeon” mechanism, are speculated to create a dynamic and immersive player experience.

This release is highly anticipated in the pinball community and will likely see strong demand upon release due to its crossover appeal with both pinball enthusiasts and traditional Dungeons & Dragons fans.
